In 1953, Parthenia and I were in Germany at the same time. We were on a bus going downtown. Two native ladies were chatting away and looking at us.
I had taken German as a foreign language, I could understand, but I wasn’t good at speaking German.
When we rose to leave the bus, Parthenia turned to the ladies and in very fluent German said, “Yes, we understand and can speak your language. Now, you two ladies have a good day”. The two ladies looked in shock and amazement as we exited the bus!
